Case Studies
Edicon Ltd has provided us with high quality development over the past four years. It is a pleasure working with them. Edicon has consistently delivered a quality of service and level of dedication that we have been unable to find elsewhere.

Zigbee Enabled Smart Energy Meter
A major player in the emerging market of smart metering required a ground up approach to the design of their new metering system. The business was looking for a design company that had a broad communications knowledge base and an understanding of designing for high volume deployment. They attracted to Edicon’s flexibility and diversity and, once engaged, we challenged their initial preconceptions and established a set of requirements. A Zigbee based smart meter system with gprs back end communications was developed in conjunction with a suite of Zigbee enabled sensors providing extended functionality. The design is now at an off shore manufacturing facility gearing up for a large UK roll out.
Communications Stack Development
UK’s largest independent system integration company required the ability to deploy disparate digital communication protocols across a common link. Edicon was engaged to develop the protocol conversion stack which enabled seamless integration. The project was successfully completed on time and within budget resulting in full deployment at nine sites around the world.

“While developing a deluxe coffee station we found that we needed a tailored electronic solution, that encorporated compacitive touch technology. We new the capacitive touch technology that we wanted to use, but what we really needed was a company that could design and prototype a board, advise what control hardware would be required and, most importantly, understand what we needed from the end product: in essence, electronically, make our product work. Edicon certainly did all this – and more. They worked hard to ensure that the product worked perfectly.”

Powerline Network Analyser
A client’s global data warehousing initiative called for the development of a semi-automated powerline network analyser. Our solution not only saved costs by eliminating the need for a trained operator, but it also reduced system measurement time from 15 days to < 1 day. We also managed the development of the web hosted data warehouse system, which allowed remote uploading of data, online statistical profiling and result distribution to registered parties.
Their genuine honesty and attitude to partnerships meant that I have been able to communicate at ease with Edicon at every step of the way.

“Having taken the decision to launch a range of new products we evaluated the need for additional staff/skill requirements very closely.Although we do employ a development team within our own organisation, this range of new products would result in us having to take on additional engineering staff but on short term contracts. The staff employed in such roles would also need additional equipment purchased and a varied set of software/hardware skills in order to design these new products. The total cost of this would certainly not be as attractive as using the Edicon team.
“Edicon can be deployed – almost as and when we need them – on business terms more favourable than short term contract staff. Further, the known skill sets and experience we have with Edicon eliminates the ‘gamble’ with new and unknown staff. Using Edicon has also negated our need to acquire additional premises to cater for an enlarged team. All these benefits convinced me to use Edicon in our roadmap of new products for 2009.
“At my first meeting their technical ability clearly demonstrated that they were more than qualified to design and build our products. Their genuine honesty and attitude to partnerships meant that I have been able to communicate at ease with Edicon at every step of the way. The whole process – although not complete yet – has, so far, been a total pleasure.

Data Acquisition Card
A distributed sensing equipment manufacturer requested our assistance in designing a 200 MHz data acquisition card for one of their products. After reviewing their specifications and requirements, we were able to present the case for a significant cost saving 50 MHz alternative solution which produced results well within the manufacturer’s performance specifications while saving of thousands of dollars in production costs. We were engaged to build both cards for the client, and we continue to manage the component procurement and manufacturing process on an ongoing basis.
